All students participating in a WMS or JCHS sport for the 2025-26 school year MUST have a
yearly sports physical.
This is a great opportunity to cross that off your back-to-school checklist, and help support several of our school groups.

Due to the possibility of severe weather and for the safety of our students and staff, all schools will have early dismissal today, April 2nd.
Jefferson Elementary, Lincoln Elementary and Washington Middle School will dismiss at 1:50 p.m. Johnston City High School will dismiss at 2:00 p.m.
All after-school programs, activities, extracurriculars and Latchkey are canceled.

Johnston City CUSD #1 is conducting Kindergarten Pre-Registration for the 2025-2026 school year. Please click on the link below to register eligible children. You will need to complete a separate form for each child you are registering. Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2025, to be eligible for Kindergarten in the 2025-2026 school year.

🧠💡Brain Games with our 8th grade team 🧠💡
We traveled back to the 70s and 80s with brain games that challenged our students in the most fun ways! From reciting 80s lyrics 🎤 and performing popular duets in TikTok style, to tackling minute-to-win-it challenges and interpreting slang from decades past, it was packed with excitement! 🚀 They even built a Mars rover with moving parts and showcased their historical knowledge in trivia!
We have two dates scheduled for Golf practice this week: Tuesday, April 1st and Thursday, April 3rd!
We'll have to keep a watchful eye on the weather for Thursday and bring you updates if practice has to be canceled or rescheduled.
📚✏️ It's a BIG week for our 7th and 8th graders. 📚✏️
Those students are taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, which focuses on English-Language Arts and Mathematics. This testing measures not just what students know but also what they can do with what they know, as well as their growth over time.
We hope our 7th and 8th graders get plenty of rest each night and come into the classroom for this assessment feeling refreshed and ready to go!
This week, Track practice kicks off today, March 31st from 3 to 4:30 p.m. We'll also have practice on Tuesday and Wednesday all leading up to our first Track meet of the season on Thursday in Herrin.
CONGRATULATIONS to those who made the Track team. We're so excited for the season and can't wait to see what our athletes accomplish. The sky's the limit!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and show support for the safety and well-being of children in our community. Washington Middle School students had an absolute blast on Friday celebrating their 3rd Quarter PBIS Reward Day with inflatables! From obstacle courses to bounce houses, laughter and excitement filled the air as students enjoyed a well-earned break for demonstrating positive behavior.
We are so proud of our students for their hard work and commitment to Respect, Responsibility, and Safety throughout the quarter. Keep up the great work, WMS! 🙌
The Johnston City Middle School and High School Student Council participated in this year's Polar Plunge.
The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking icy dips into a pool full of water.
Our students raised more than $2000 for the Special Olympics. We want to say thank you to everyone who donated and to the Student Council for taking the plunge!
